How much are Citi ThankYou points worth in cash in 2026?
As of 2026-10-06, trackers report 0.75 cents per point for standalone Citi Strata Premier and 0.75 cents for standalone Strata Elite. A confirmed ThankYou link to Double Cash or an existing Custom Cash can give Premier 1 cent cash redemptions; Elite’s linked uplift remains unverified. The catalog’s 60,000 points Premier bonus equals $450 alone or $600 through the linked route, before fees; terms apply.

| Redemption route | Value per point | Value of 60,000 points | After $95 first-year fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier alone: cash | 0.75¢ | $450 | $355 |
| Premier with confirmed Double Cash/Custom Cash link | 1¢ | $600 | $505 |
| Transfer partners: catalog estimate | 1.9¢ (estimate) | ~$1,140 | ~$1,045 |
Catalog offer: 60,000 points after $4,000 in eligible purchases within 3 months; $95 annual fee. Terms apply; offers checked 2026-10-06. Confirm the current offer and fees with Citi before applying. Citi: Strata Premier product and offer terms (catalog offers checked 2026-10-06; terms apply).
The catalog’s 1.9¢ travel assumption is consistent with TPG’s October valuation. It depends on transfer partners, award availability and timing, and is not a cash redemption quote. This table counts only the welcome bonus minus the first-year fee; it excludes card credits, spending rewards, interest and taxes. The Points Guy: October 2026 valuations (published 2026-10-01).
What changed and when
Citi reduced standalone Strata Premier and legacy Prestige cash redemptions to 0.75¢, effective August 24, 2025. Frequent Miler’s May 21, 2025 report and Doctor of Credit’s corroboration describe the change and the Double Cash/Custom Cash workaround. Frequent Miler: cash-rate cut and confirmed workaround (reported 2025-05-21; effective 2025-08-24). Doctor of Credit: Citi cash-rate change (report of the 2025-08-24 change).
The accounts must actually be linked in ThankYou. Merely owning another Citi card, or having a spouse who owns one, does not establish the linked redemption route. Frequent Miler’s January 19, 2026 guide explains pooling and the best available redemption options. Frequent Miler: ThankYou points and pooling guide (published 2026-01-19).
Which rates are verified on issuer pages?
The 0.75¢ standalone and 1¢ linked figures are not verified on issuer pages: Citi’s cited public product page does not print a numeric cash rate. These rates come from independent trackers. Cash-rate evidence in the catalog was checked 2026-10-07; confirm the quote in the ThankYou portal before redeeming. Citi: Strata Premier product and offer terms (catalog offers checked 2026-10-06; terms apply). Frequent Miler: cash-rate cut and confirmed workaround (reported 2025-05-21; effective 2025-08-24).
One Mile at a Time’s September 25, 2026 review reports 0.75¢ standalone Elite cash-out. The Premier workaround is better documented; the catalog does not support an Elite linked uplift. One Mile at a Time: Strata Elite review (published 2026-09-25).
Common mistakes
- Using one cash rate for every ThankYou card. The catalog records standalone Premier at 0.75¢ and standalone Elite at 0.75¢. The linked Premier rate needs a confirmed account relationship.
- Treating a transfer estimate as cash. The 1.9¢ travel estimate depends on the redemption. Cash calculations should use the applicable cash-out rate.
- Assuming any Citi card restores the linked rate. The reported workaround names Double Cash and Custom Cash. It does not establish an Elite uplift or a link to any other Citi product.
- Closing a card after pooling its points. Frequent Miler reports that unredeemed points earned on a closed card can be lost even after pooling. Check points rules and product-change options before closing.
Frequently asked questions
Does the lower rate apply to statement credits and direct deposit?
The reports describe cash-back redemptions generally, without documenting every method separately. Compare the exact point cost and dollar amount in the ThankYou portal before redeeming. Frequent Miler: cash-rate cut and confirmed workaround (reported 2025-05-21; effective 2025-08-24).
Does Double Cash need to be open and linked before redeeming?
The reported route requires an eligible linked card when redeeming. Holding the card without linking the ThankYou accounts does not establish the higher rate. Frequent Miler: cash-rate cut and confirmed workaround (reported 2025-05-21; effective 2025-08-24). Frequent Miler: ThankYou points and pooling guide (published 2026-01-19).
Is Strata Elite affected?
Its standalone cash-out rate is reported at 0.75¢. A linked Elite uplift remains unverified and is excluded from this example. One Mile at a Time: Strata Elite review (published 2026-09-25).
What about gift cards, Amazon or PayPal?
These are separate redemption routes with their own quotes. Compare them in the portal rather than assuming a cash rate applies. Frequent Miler: ThankYou points and pooling guide (published 2026-01-19).
Can a new Custom Cash application establish the linked route?
The catalog marks Custom Cash closed to new applications. Existing cardholders can check their linking options; this guide does not recommend applying for the closed product.
